The surf-club La Vague Basque has been established in 1997 to fill in the gap in “learn to surf” programs for the young residents of Biarritz – “the biarrots” on the Milady Beach by two friends and native biarrots - David Quérol and Christophe Moraiz.

The objective of the surf-club was to teach young biarrots the art of surfing from the beginner to the advanced level. During the two months period (july to august), the surf school offers great value surfing lessons for all level students. All our lessons are 1.30 to 2 hours long and include equipment. The only things you need to bring is a smile, enthusiasm and a bathing suit. All surfers-students are asked to meet us at our meeting point (white VW-bus tattooed with “La Vague Basque”) at la Côte des Basques 20 mns prior to the lesson time.

Beginner lessons will start with a 15 minute instruction on the beach to explain you the surf basics and to let you warming up a bit, and after that... it's time to get wet and have lots of fun! Beginners will learn to paddle, and your instructor will be there to help you making your first stand up on your board for the first time. This is where you may become addicted to the search of the perfect wave… So beware – you are warned!

After you grasped the basics, we will take your surfing to the next level – you may book one of our multi-day courses or take individual lessons. We care about your surfing progress - in each new course we give you new challenges.
We teach children from 4 years old, and adults of all ages the art of surfing through safe and easy techniques that are proven to work. For the more advanced surfers, the instructor will get you riding different boards, will choose the surf spot with the best conditions for your skill level (sometimes you will be taken to the nearby spots in Bidart, Guethary or Hendaye). You will be told about the particular aspects of the break, our instructors will enlarge your knowledge about the ocean and the waves.  Once you paddle out together, our instructor will help you to improve your wave judgment, your surfing techniques by observing, giving you tips, sharing the experience… and it will be time to catch your first perfect wave… and search for it over and over again.

From September to June, the club members may continue taking surfing lessons with our Professional Certified Surf Instructors at a very reasonable price. Successful experience of teaching the art of surfing triggered the establishment of “le BASCS” (Biarritz Association Surf Clubs) by all surf clubs of Biarritz.

In 1999, the surf school has been privatised to promote the “learn to surf” during the high and low seasons.
In 2003, following the decision of local authority, the surf club La Vague Basque has been transferred from Milady and Marbella beaches to the nowadays most popular surfing spot - la Côte des Basques of Biarritz.
